HAGGERTY RETAINS ONE KICKBOXING WORLD TITLE

ONE 171 touched down in Qatar today with a Kickboxing world title on the line and a Muay Thai showcase that stole the spotlight in its own way.

Jonathan Haggerty defended his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing belt against China’s Wei Rui, who came in carrying a 21-fight win streak. Haggerty needed a bounce-back after his loss to Superlek, and you could tell from the opening seconds. He set the tone with a stiff jab, mixed his shots well, and used his teep to keep Wei at arm’s length. Wei never found his rhythm early, and even when he tried to push harder in the last two rounds, Haggerty stayed a step ahead. Solid effort from Wei, but the edge was obvious. The judges saw it the same way and handed Haggerty a clear unanimous decision.

In the Muay Thai bout, Jake Peacock showed up with bad intentions against Shinji Suzuki. He pushed the pace right away and kept piling on clean combinations. The second round was where everything shifted: elbows and knees dropped Suzuki and put Peacock fully in command. Suzuki survived into the third, but Peacock wasn’t interested in letting it drag out. A sharp right hand put Suzuki on the canvas again. A low kick followed with another knockdown. Then an elbow sealed it for good—Suzuki’s fourth knockdown of the fight. The referee stepped in, giving Peacock a well-earned TKO.
